NTDAW2014_logo_4c_EDITAs we roll into National Truck Driver Appreciation week, we spent some time with our recruiting department asking the hard questions about OTR driving positions at Continental Carbonic Products, Inc. (CCPI)

What are the minimum requirements for driving at Continental Carbonic Products, Inc.?

The basic qualifications include having a current CDL-A and Medical Certificate, at least one year of tractor/trailer driving experience, a safe driving history and a strong commitment to driving in a safe and compliant manner.

Will Continental Carbonic hire solo or team drivers?

We hire both solo drivers and team drivers as well as part-time drivers. If a driver wants to be a team driver, but doesn’t have a partner, we will assist in finding them a partner.

What does CCPI do? Why do we need OTR truck drivers?

CCPI is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) and liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2), along with sales and rental of dry ice blasting equipment. CCPI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Matheson Tri-Gas.

Our length of haul averages 600 miles per round trip with some routes exceeding 1,700 miles. The trip distance requires that we have OTR solo and team drivers.

Do I have to live close to a Continental Carbonic plant or branch to drive for you?

Not necessarily. If a driver doesn’t live close to one of our manufacturing locations, a driver could be based out of one of our branch locations. If a driver is outside of our plant and branch locations, but willing to be away from home for two – three weeks at a time they can run the entire CCPI network and return home for their breaks. What kind of equipment do your drivers get to drive?

CCPI leases and rents all our tractors from Penske or Ryder. Our drivers are supplied with 2013 or newer Freightliner Cascadia trucks that are equipped with top of the line safety features including: DriveCam event recording system, OnGuard collision avoidance/lane departure/blind spot detection system, and Hindsight 20/20 backing camera/sonar system.

Will dry ice be the only thing I will be hauling?

In addition to hauling dry ice containers to the customers and branch warehouses and retuning the empty dry ice containers to the plants, we have a small portion of drivers who are qualified to haul liquid carbon dioxide which is a hazmat material and is transported in a special tanker trailers.

Does Continental Carbonic offer any benefits to their over-the-road drivers?

Yes, in addition to competitive mileage based pay, we offer a PPO medical plan, dental and vision insurance, company paid life insurance, 401K with company match, vacation, sick leave and bereavement. We have a very strong commitment to safety, and therefore, offer a monthly safety performance bonus to reward safe driving.

What will a typical week look like for an over-the-road truck driver for Continental Carbonic?

Becoming an over-the-road truck driver requires time away from home. Driving for Continental Carbonic means you spend some or all of your ten hour breaks on the road. We offer flexible schedules for 34 hour restarts with up to two full days of time at home. We offer additional days for drivers that are on the road for greater than one week. And, we offer a weekly average of 2,500 miles to solo drivers or 5.500 miles to teams.
